Chevron Canada Ltd. IFR & API 653 EPC & UPGRADES BC Canada 2008

Location: Cobble Hill, British Columbia, Canada

Chevron Canada Limited awarded Matrix Service a lump sum contract to retrofit and install upgrades and internal floating roofs on two gasoline storage tanks at their Cobble Hill, British Columbia Terminal.

The Cobble Hill Terminal in western Canada is located on pristine Vancouver Island, approximately 20 miles offshore from downtown Vancouver, BC. Our crews implemented extra safety precautions to deal with weekly barges that delivered fuel to adjacent tanks at the terminal. Additionally, they worked as quietly as possible during equipment setting and repairs to maintain a quiet environment for nearby homeowners.

The scope of work included the design, engineering, procurement, and field erection of two new internal, reverse slope, pontoon floating roofs on tanks 85’ and 48’ in diameter. Additionally, our crews installed other API 653 compliant upgrades such as ladders, handrails, floating suctions, and seals. They also completed new piping modifications to the tank fill and suction lines.

The tanks were out of commission from January through May of 2008 while the project was underway. The work was completed ahead of schedule and without any safety incidents.
